Ever wonder who invented the idea of baking cakes in tiny cups? Well, we’re here to talk about that.
While the conventional cake we see, layers of a sponge base with copious amounts of frosting have been around for centuries. Cupcakes first became an idea in 1796 by Amelia Simmons, but the actual term was coined by Eliza Lesli in her cookbook “Receipt” in 1828, where she included a recipe for it as well. Not long after, 1919 was when bakers started to sell commercial desserts, marketed as a bite-size snack.
